Summer has officially arrived, and with it comes a season filled with celebrations, community events, family gatherings, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything that makes our hometowns special. Here at Our Town Magazine, we’ve been hard at work bringing you stories that inspire, inform, and showcase the people and places that make our communities such wonderful places to live.
This edition begins with a celebration of Independence Day and a look at the spirit of patriotism that continues to unite Americans across generations. This year is particularly significant as our nation celebrates its 250th birthday. As we reflect on the freedoms we enjoy, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all past, present, and future members of our military. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our country are deeply appreciated, and we thank you for your service.
We also take a closer look at the Lexington County Peach Festival, one of our area’s most beloved traditions. This annual celebration brings together neighbors, visitors, and families for a day filled with fun, entertainment, and community pride. It’s events like these that remind us of the importance of gathering together and celebrating the unique character of our hometowns.
One of the stories that especially touched me in this issue is our feature on the new Wingard Park. Mrs. Willie Wingard’s generosity, vision, and love for her community have created a space where families can gather, children can play, and memories can be made for years to come. Her impact will undoubtedly be felt for generations.
Of course, summer also means spending more time outdoors. Whether you’re tackling projects around your home, maintaining your roof or air conditioning unit, or simply looking for ways to improve your outdoor living spaces, our Home Series section offers helpful ideas and connects you with trusted local businesses to turn those plans into reality.
For the food lovers among us, we’ve highlighted three local mobile food vendors serving up flavors that perfectly capture the taste of summer. These mobile kitchens bring creativity, convenience, and delicious food to the streets and the water, and they’re definitely worth tracking down.
As we move from July into August, families everywhere begin preparing for another school year. To help ease the transition, we’ve included practical back-to-school advice from a mom and retired teacher who shares valuable tips for helping both parents and students start the year off right.
We’re also proud to recognize Irmo Deputy Town Administrator Nicholle Burroughs as this edition’s Service With a Smile recipient. Her dedication to public service, leadership, and community engagement exemplifies what it means to serve others with purpose, heart, and, of course, a smile.
As always, we hope you enjoy this edition of Our Town Magazine as we head into our fourth year. Please remember to support the local businesses that advertise with us. Their commitment to our communities helps make this publication possible.
Thank you for continuing to read, support, and enjoy Our Town Magazine as we begin our fourth year in business. Time has truly flown by, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds!
I hope to see you out and about!
